Dorothy McCombs Scholarship
The Dorothy Foster McCombs Endowed Scholarship was established to honor the memory of Dorothy McCombs and her commitment to Appalachian Studies and the Appalachian region. The 2008 award will be for $1000, to be applied to the 2008-2009 school year.
The annual scholarship award will be made to an undergraduate student at Virginia Tech who is participating in Appalachian Studies and who is from the Appalachian region. Applicants for the scholarship must also have completed or be enrolled and in good standing in at least one course in Appalachian Studies. Applicants must have sophomore, junior, or senior standing and a minimum 2.5 QCA. An applicant must fill out the application form and return it to the location indicated on the form.
Selection of the scholarship winner will be made by the McCombs Scholarship Committee. Selection will be based on the applicant's demonstration of interest in Appalachian Studies, academic qualifications, need, and academic/leadership potential.
The scholarship will be applied only to tuition. The scholarship will be awarded to any one individual only once. Names of each year's recipient will be inscribed on a permanent plaque displayed in the offices of the Appalachian Studies Program.
