M.F.A. in Creative Writing at San Diego State University.

HahnElizabeth Hahn teaches in Appalachian Studies, Humanities, and Women’s Studies. She is a writer, painter and filmmaker with areas of research interest that include the mountain cultures of Appalachia, creativity and the arts, documentary film, indigenous cultures, and sustainability. She produced and directed the documentary, “My Battle of Blacksburg,” which premiered at Duke University’s Center for Documentary Studies in 2003. Her fiction includes the short story, “Trailing Shadows,” which was published in the anthology, Elvis in Oz, and she has exhibited visual art that includes paintings, photography and crafts. She received her M.F.A. at San Diego State University in Creative Writing, her M.A. from Hollins University in English and Creative Writing, and her B.A. from Virginia Tech in the Fine Arts with a concentration in painting. In addition to teaching at Virginia Tech, she has taught at the University of North Carolina in Wilmington, San Diego State University, San Diego Mesa College, and Radford University, as well as at Art Workshops of Guatemala, where she teaches workshops on Mayan culture. She serves on the board of Working Films, a non-profit organization that links cutting-edge documentary film with community organizing and activism.
